Cards (5)

  • What is salmeterol?
    LABA
    Long-acting beta agonist
  • What are the indications of salmeterol?
    Asthma
    COPD
  • What are the side effects of salmeterol?
    Palpitations
    Tremor
    Headache
  • What is the pharmacology of salmeterol?
    Target: b2 adrenoreceptor
    Activity: Agonist
  • MOA - salmeterol
Salmeterol binds to b2 adrenoreceptors -> activation of adenyl cyclase -> increased intracellular conc of cAMP -> activation of protein kinase A -> inhibits phosphorylation of myosin & lowers intracellular Ca+2 conc -> smooth muscle relaxation
    = bronchodilation & increased airflow
