Landscape Equipment Safety and Maintenance

• Skid steers are used for small excavations, grading jobs, moving bulk material, dig footings, foundations, and pools/ponds,
• Tractors are used for grading, excavating, post hole digging, scraping, tilling, and hauling gravel
• Riding trenchers are used to dig deep trenches to be used for edging, lighting, irrigation pipe, or utilities
• Pipe pullers are used to install pipe and wire by pulling it through the ground
• Backhoes are used for digging large excavations
• Excavators, bulldozers, and track loaders are used for extremely deep excavation
• Mini excavators are used when space is limited and the excavator isn't more than 15ft
• Hand-operated equipment includes augers, brick saws, chainsaws, circular saws, demolition saws, rototiller, sod cutters, and tampers/plate compactors
• Gas and oil needs to be mixed for 2-stroke engines
• For maintenance purposes check the blades, guards and safety devices, belts and pulleys, grease fittings, nuts, and bolts
• Maintenance items for gas engines include oil level, oil and oil filter, air filters, spark plugs, and pull ropes
