• 1948 the Un adopted the Universal Declaration of Human rights
• Main members of the UN: UK, USA, China, Russia, France
• Soft power: The ability to influence others through persuasion rather than force.
• Hard power: The use of military force to achieve a political goal.
• Mediation: intervention in a dispute in order to resolve it
• The WTO and NATO are not part of the UN
• WTO: World Trade Organization - aims to reduce trade barriers and promote free trade
• NATO: North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
• NATO has 31 member states
• The Commonwealth has 56 countries part of it: UK, Canada, Cyprus, India, Australia
