Cognitive

Cards (4)

  • Information processing model
    compares human behaviour to computers:
    • input goes in (stimulus)
    • processing occurs (cognition)
    • output is given (behaviour)
  • Schema
    • packages containing information on a certain topic created through the individual's beliefs, experiences and expectations
    • act as a mental framework for later interactions
    • born with simple motor schema as baby but grow more complex as individual grows up
  • Aspects of cognition
    • Language
    • Attention
    • Memory
    • Perception
    • Schema
  • Cognitive approach evaluation:
+ Scientific method: high validity + reliability
+ Less deterministic: we can think before responding, allows a certain amount of free will
    - Reductionist: computer analogy ignores human emotion that can change how we think
    - Uses assumptions: as internal processes are a result of inference, it is not concrete evidence and can therefore be subjective so is less scientific
