Respiratory System

Cards (4)

  • The respiratory system is responsible for getting oxygen from the air we breathe into our blood. Oxygen is needed to produce energy to stay alive. Our cells produce carbon dioxide which our lungs breathe out.
  • Respiration: Cellular Respiration
    • Occurs in mitochondria, it’s the chemical reaction of making energy from breaking down glucose
    • Glucose + oxygen ——is———> Carbon dioxide + water + ATP
  • Cells Need Oxygen
Our cells require oxygen to produce energy, and energy is produced by oxygen. The food that we consume gets broken down into glucose. For our cells to release energy from this glucose, they require oxygen. The energy generated by our cells is utilized to break down substances and create new ones for the body.
  • Oxygen into blood cells.
The lungs are composed of millions of air sacs known as alveoli. These alveoli are covered by capillaries, which allow oxygen to move into the blood and carbon dioxide to be expelled from blood.
