Kohlberg (1968) studied a sample of 75 American boys aged 10 to 16 at the start of the research. These boys were followed longitudinally and re interviewed at intervals until they were aged 22 to 28. In addition to the American sample, Kohlberg also included participants from Great Britain, Canada, Taiwan, Mexico, and Turkey to allow for cross-cultural comparisons to moral development
