• Muscles of the Thenar Eminence - Superficial layer:

  • Abductor pollicis brevis (APB)
  • Flexor pollicis brevis (FPB)

  A) Abductor Pollicis Brevis

  B) Flexor Pollicis Brevis

  
• Both superficial thenar muscles:

  • insert at lateral aspect of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
  • actions are at carpometacarpal and metacarpophalangeal joints
  • nerve supply is recurrent branch of median nerve (flexor pollicis brevis also has ulnar nerve)
  • direction is distally
