• Nasal cavity:

  • contains tiny projections - increase SA
  • filters, warms and moistens air befor entering lungs
  • hair and mucus trap dust
• Pharynx:

  • AKA. throught
  • air from nasal cavity passes through here
• Larynx

  • air passes through - to and from lungs
  • contains vocal chords
• Eppiglotus:

  • flap of tissue which closes over trachea when swallowing
• Trachea:

  • AKA. windpipe
  • lined with mucus membrane and cells with cilia
  • cilia beat to move mucus and trapped particals upwards
• Bronchi:

  • trachea branches into 2 brimary bronchi
  • secondary and tertiaru bronchi
