Exercise

Cards (8)

  • Why does exercise make you respire more?
Because muscles are contracting more often which requires more energy
  • Which 3 things increase in order to supply more oxygen to your cells during increased respiration?
    • Heart rate
    • Breathing rate
    • Breath volume
  • Why are muscles painful after intensive exercise?
Lactic acid builds up in them from anaerobic respiration, causing pain
  • What is muscle fatigue?
When muscles are too tired to contract properly and being active for long periods of time
  • What is oxygen debt?
The amount of oxygen the body needs to react with the build up of lactic acid and remove it from cells
  • What is produced when oxygen reacts with lactic acid?
    Carbon dioxide and water
  • Why do you have to keep breathing hard after exercise finishes?
    To 'repay' the oxygen debt
  • What is the alternative method the body uses to get rid of lactic acid build up?
It transports it to the liver in the blood where it is converted back to glucose
