• Parang developed into 3 sub- genres:

  • Traditional parang
  • Soca Parang
  • Parang Soca
• In traditional parang there existed no instruments, that used any form of electronic amplified sound.

  1. Percussion- Congas, Maracas, Wood Block
  2. Rhythm- Box Bass, Cuatro, Guitar
  3. Lead Instrument- Vocals, Flute, Violin/Fiddle
• Soca Parang/ Parang Soca:

  As calypsonians began to experiment with the parang genre, and brought across serval instruments, in bid to blend to the genres
• Soca Parang/ Parang Soca:

  In addition to the instruments used for Traditional Parang, there were some notable changes
• Soca Parang/ Parang Soca:

  1. Percussion- Bongos, Drum machine
  2. Rhythm- Keyboard, Synthesizer, Bass Guitar
  3. Lead Instrument- Electric guitar, Steelpan
