    • What is the endocrine system
      A network of glands across the body that secrete chemical messages called hormones
    • what does the endocrine system do

      it uses blood vessels to transport hormones around the body to a specific target cell and different hormones produce different effects
    • Hypothalamus
      controls the endocrine system and regulates it. it is connected to the pituitary gland and is responsible for stimulating or controlling the release of hormones from the pituitary gland
    • Pituitary gland
      it is the master gland. hormones released by this gland stimulate other hormones.
    • Anterior
      (front), stimulates the adrenal cortex and release of cortisol
    • Posterior
      (back) oxytocin, the hormone when you are with someone you love
    • Pineal Gland
      produces melatonin - biological rhythm - sleep-wake cycle
    • Thyroid gland
      produces thyroxine which regulates metabolism
    • adrenal gland
      contains the adrenal medulla, with the adrenal cortex on the outside

      produces noradrenaline, fight or flight

      produces cortisol, release of glucose

      Androgens, testosterone which is the male sex hormone

      Oestrogen, which controls regulation of menstruation and pregnancy
