Cell Division

Cards (13)

  • Cell division is the process in which the cell divides.
  • CHROMOSOMES contains DNA, RNA (Ribonucleic acid), and a number
    of proteins.
  • DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) are materials that stores coded information about how an organism grows and develops.
  • Human beings have 22 pairs of body chromosomes and 1 pair of
    sex cells chromosomes.
  • The pair of sex chromosomes is represented by the letter X and y.
  • MITOSIS Is a process in which the cell nucleus divides.
    It has four main stages.
  • Mitosis has 4 main stages; Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.
  • INTERPHASE is the period of cell growth, when the cell makes new molecules and
    organelles.
  • PROPHASE is the first stage of mitosis, during which duplicated chromosomes
condense to form structures visible with a light microscope. The mitotic spindle
forms and begins moving the chromosomes toward the center of the cell.
  • METAPHASE is the second stage of mitosis, all the cell’s duplicated chromosomes
are lined up between the poles of the mitotic spindle.
  • ANAPHASE is the third stage of mitosis, twin chromosomes split apart and move to
    opposite end of the cell.
  • TELOPHASE is the fourth and final stage, during which daughter nuclei are formed
at the two poles of a cell.
  • CYTOKINESIS is the division of cytoplasm to form two separate daughter cells.
