The cold easterly winds from Siberia lead to heavy snowfall and temperatures that were below zero
It was caused by a large Artic easterly airmass which stretched from the far east of Russia to the UK
The "Beast East" combined with storm Emma which made landfall on the 2nd March leading to some of the worst winter conditions that Britain had seen in years
