the
wind
howled
through
the
desolate
streets
its
icy
fingers
clawing
at the
remains
of the
once
vibrant
city
streetlights
flickered
casting
elongated
shadows
that
danced
like
spectres
on the
crumbling
walls
the
silence
was
deafening
,
broken
only
by the
distant
creak
of
metal
and the
occasional
whisper
of
wind
i
pulled
my
coat
tighter,
the
fabric
offering
little
resistance
against
the
biting
cold.
each
step
echoed,
a
solitary
drumbeat
in
vast
emptiness
buildings
stood
as
hollow
sentinels.
their
windows
shattered
,
nature
had
begun
its
reclamation.
ivy
snaked
up
brickwork
and
weeds
burst
through
the
concrete
i
rememberd
when
this
street
bustled
with
life,
children's laughter
, the
aroma
of
fresh bread
from the
bakery,
the
hum
of
conversation
all
now
a
ghost
of
my
memories,
the
whole
world
had
changed
overnight,
a
silent
enemy
sweeping
through
leaving
desolation
in its
wake
