  1. measure acid and put into beaker
  2. heat acid using bunsen burner
  3. add small amounts of insoluble base in excess
  4. filter to remove excess
  5. pour solution into evaporating basin
  6. evaporate solution using water bath until crystals start to form
  7. leave evaporating basin to crystallise
  8. pat crystals dry
