  1. add x solution to beaker
  2. add lid and insert electrodes through holes, making sure they don’t touch
  3. attach crocodile leads to electrode and connect rods to dc terminals of low voltage power supply
  4. set power supply to 4V and switch on
  5. use tweezers to hold litmus paper near positive electrode
  6. after a few minutes turn power off and observe negative electrode
  7. record observations at electrodes
  8. repeat experiment with y solution
