alleles

Cards (6)

  • Genes are DNA sections that code for specific proteins or functional RNA, playing a crucial part in biological functions.
Alleles, however, are variations of these genes, leading to diverse traits such as eye color.
  • Alleles are variations of a gene.
  • Homozygous are 2 same alleles in a gene.
Heterozygous are 2 different alleles in a gene.
  • A dominant allele only needs to be inherited from one parent in order for the characteristic to show up in the phenotype.
A recessive allele needs to be inherited from both parents in order for the characteristic to show up in the phenotype.
  • Genotype is the combination of alleles that control each characteristic.
  • Phenotype is the observable characteristics of an organism.
