Rate of reaction- factors

    Cards (6)

    • Factors that affect the rate of reaction
      • Temperature
      • Surface area
      • Concentration/pressure
      • Presence of a catalyst
    • Increasing any of the factors that affect the rate of reaction
Increases the rate of reaction as it will increase the number of more successful collisions
    • Collision theory

For particles to react, they have to collide with each other with sufficient energy which is the activation energy. If they have less energy than this, then nothing will happen.
    • The rate of reaction will depend on the amount of energy the particles have, the frequency of collisions, and the activation energy required for the reaction to occur
    • The more energy the particles have, the more energy they can transfer during the collision and so they can overcome the activation energy
    • The more often collisions there are, the more successful collisions there will be overall
