  • Westergaard and Resler
Little evidence of class divisions in british society disappearing and these inequalities are only understood as a result of the capitalist system and how it distributes wealth & power unequally. They argue that class divisions remain strong and life chances are shaped by class.
  • Braverman
Middle class workers have been deskilled (programmed into machines or broken down into simple tasks that can be performed by less simple workers). This reduces the control thagt these workers have over work processes and allows employers to pay them lower wages
  • Castles and Kosack
Workers have not united and become class conscious because the bourgeoisie use techniques to divide and rule. They promote racism & sexism to put workers against eachother, which distracts them from the real enemy
  • Bourdeiu
Cultural tastes play a part in creating boundaries between social classes. The bourgeoisie use their cultural capital to maintain their class position
