  A process that happens to all life on Earth and takes a lot of time
• Evolution allows species to become better adapted to their environment
• Polar bears evolved


  1. Fur became white so it is camouflaged to blend in more successfully in the Arctic

  2. Blubber became thicker to withstand colder temperatures

  3. Ears became smaller to reduce heat loss

  4. Feet became larger and wider for walking in snow
• Process of Evolution


  1. Involves mutations and some of these mutations result in better organisms that are better suited to the environment

  2. The success of these organisms over time is called natural selection
• Endocrine glands include the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands (including the adrenal medulla), pancreas, ovaries/testes, and pineal gland.
• A mutation which causes a gene change producing a new allele with a beneficial effect 


  Advantageous
• Over many generations, the frequency of advantageous genes increases within a population as they are inherited by offspring
• Natural Selection - A mechanism of evolution that results from differential survival and reproduction of individuals due to differences in phenotype
