Plants need to be able to photosynthesise to make food.
They need to get carbon dioxide and simultaneously lose water. This water is lost by transpiration through the stomata which must stay open all day to remove oxygen - another product of photosynthesis.
They must gain less water but lose it for turgor pressue and transport.
There are two types of plant:
Xerophytes- plants that are adapted to living in dry/arid conditions.
Hydrophytes - plants adapted to living in water or where ground is very wet.
