• Storm Eunice 2022 (Extreme wind): Primary effects – two deaths form flying debris, O2 arena heavily damaged, many hospitalized from injuries, 200,000 homes without electricity, large waves formed in coastal areas, 122mph gusts of wind Secondary effects – Many were stranded abroad due to cancelled flights, major events such as concerts needed to be cancelled, travel tickets needed to be refunded, Southeastern main train lines were closed.
• Beast From the East 2018 (Extreme cold/ snow): Primary effects – 10 deaths from the cold, 10-20cm snowfall in two days, hundreds stranded as roads were impassable, lorries were unable to travel on roads, Secondary effects – Hospitals had to cancel non urgent surgeries, slippery roads led to traffic accidents, thousands of homes were without electricity or heating.
• 2022 Anticyclone heatwave: Primary effects – 250 firefighters tackled 3 grass fires in London, Six houses were destroyed by fire in Barnsley, smoke covered much of the M25, non urgent surgeries were cancelled, 15,000 homes without electricity Secondary effects – Insurance companies had to pay out millions in claims, many became homeless due to housefire damage, train cancellations prevented people form going to work, water supply issues affected much of the UK
