  • the nep led to widespread unemployment of women
  • female prostituation was widespread as it was legal - during the 1920s 39% of men used prostitutes
  • during the NEP , there was only 8 female tractor drivers across the whole soviet union
  • The family code of 1918 made divorce easier.  No reasons for divorce were needed.
  • From 1920  abortion was legalised.
  • By 1926 50% of marriages in Moscow ended in divorce. 
  • 1927 Marriage Law: Abortion made easier
  • From 1919 , women were given a legal right to equal pay for work and equal voting rights 
  • Contraception became legal 
  • Men and women who were living together given same rights as legally married couples 
  • Had established education schemes for women in factories and set quotas to ensure women were represented in all levels of education
  • zhenotdel recruited women from towns to fill jobs in nursing and food distribution during civil war
  • when the civil war ended, women working in industry were sacked so that men could take the industrial jobs
