  • which case study can be used for classical conditioning
    Pavlov and the dogs
  • Pavlov- before conditioning
    • Neutral stimulus (bell) -> no response (no salivate)
    • Unconditioned stimulus (food) -> unconditioned response (salivate)
  • Pavlov- during conditioning
neutral stimulus (bell) + unconditioned stimulus (food) -> unconditioned response (salivate)
  • Pavlov- after conditioning
conditioned stimulus (bell) -> conditioned response (salivate)
  • what case study can be used for operant conditioning
    Skinner Box
  • condition one of the skinner box
    1. rat moves around box/cage and accidently presses lever
    2. this causes a pellet / food to be delivered into the cage
    • this causes the rat to repeat this behaviour, this is an example of positive reinforcement
  • condition 2 of the Skinner Box
    1. rat is subjected to an unpleasant stimulus- electric shock
    2. if rat presses the lever the shock stops
    • the rat repeats this behaviour to avoid a negative consequence, this is known as negative reinforcement.
