  • Overfishing is when vessels catch fish faster than stocks can replenish. This depletes some species to low numbers and can cause extinction. It reduces valuable living resources to such low levels that their exploitation is no longer sustainable. Bottom trawling is where large industrial trawlers drag nets across the seabed.
