an object will remain at rest or in its current state of motion unless acted upon by an external force
eg. a golf ball will remain still until the golfer strikes it with the club
newtons 2nd law- law of acceleration
the force applied to an object will produce a change in motion (acceleration) in the direction of the applied force that is directly proportional to the size of the force
eg. a gold ball struck with a faster swung club will travel further than one hit will a less force hit
newtons 3rd law- law of action-reaction
for every 'action' there is an equal and opposite 'reaction' force
