Direct and Reported Speech

• Direct speech - when the words are given exactly the way that the speaker said them
• Indirect speech - reporting of what someone else said in your own words but not changing the meaning of what was said
• Past simple tense - subject + verb (+ed)
• Past perfect tense - had + past participle
