  • Selective breeding is when humans choose which organisms to breed in order to produce offspring with a certain desirable characteristic.
    1. Parents with desired characteristics are chosen.
    2. Bred together.
    3. From offspring, those with desired characteristics are bred together.
    4. The process is repeated until all of them have the characteristic.
  • Impacts:
    • Inbreeding creates a reduction of gene pool.
    • Environment changes or diseases means species become extinct as they all have the same genetic makeup. This is especially bad for crops as it creates severe economic problems because they are the farmer’s income.
    • Genetic defects such as recessive characteristics.
