Week 6 - Physiological responses to exercise

Cards (4)

  • SAID Principle
Adaptations in the body occur according to this concept

    • Adaptations
    • Imposed
    • Demands
  • Acute response

    • Temporary, short term responses include breathing faster (higher tidal volume) and heart rate increases steadily. Blood pressure increases
  • Chronic response
    • In the long-term, regular exercise reduces blood pressure. The fitter you are, the lower your blood pressure is likely to be. Hypertrophy of the heart, septum and ventricular walls become thicker and stronger in response to consistent exercise. Capillaries can spread over a larger area / surface area to increase the exchange of oxygen and CO2. Respiratory (chronic) Respiratory muscles get stronger, (intercostal muscles) at diaphragm, which increases vital capacity, (more capillaries around the alveoli) T.V., alveoli, lung capacity all increase
