Colonialism - In 1700s a lot of the south was colonised by european countries in order to access raw materials - the countries where badly affected and only gained independance in the 1900s
Political conflict may impact trading - if you trade with wealthy countries, you will get wealthy

LICs struggle to trade raw materials for a good price - they cannot economically develop
Due to the poverty cycle, LICs who are not being treated well by other countries will struggle to escape poverty as wealthy countries continue to grow and develop

Climate such as high temps and lack of fresh water can leave countries with poor working conditions
Areas prone to natural disasters are constantly facing destruction and damage which limits their development as infrastructure is damaged
Some land locked countries cant access traid routes
