  • Five Stages of Grief

    5. Acceptance
  • Denial is a healthy response to a stressful situation, and it acts as a temporary buffer to help protect the individual
  • Anger may be directed at loved ones and expressed through shouting, complaining, and bitterness
  • Bargaining occurs throughout the dying process. Before a loss, it seems like you will do anything if only loved one would be spared, you bargain to prolong life
  • Depression feels as though it will last forever. It is important to understand that this depression is not a sign of mental illness. It is the appropriate response to a great loss
  • Acceptance is about accepting the reality that our loved one is physically gone and recognized that this new reality is the permanent reality
  • What can be done for someone grieving a loss?

    • Attend memorial services
    • Be available during difficult times

A disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. Fear is a part of the body's "fight-or-flight" response, which helps us avoid or respond to potential danger.
  • Bipolar Disorder
A mental illness that causes unusual shifts in a person's mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration. These shifts can make it difficult to carry out day-to-day tasks.
