    Candidates and party supporters phone or go round people’s doors to speak with the public about the party’s election manifesto. In 2019 Alister Jack and his supporters canvassed in Dumfries with their key policy to “Get Brexit Done.”
  • why do they canvass
    They can explain the party policies to try to increase voter awareness of the party and win over voters.
    They can find out areas with low support and target it with leaflets and adverts to win more support.
  • what is social media for campaigning 

    Politicians update their Twitter or Facebook pages with information about their manifesto and what they’d do if elected. Alister Jack
    has 1.8k followers on FB. They share criticisms of the opposition party. These posts are shared by their supporters.
  • why do they use social media?
    They hope that large numbers of the public will see these shared posts and it will make them more likely to vote for that party.
    Facebook lets them send targeted adverts to voters, with messages specific to their age, sex and where they live.

    Have a popular leader and They get support from newspapers.
  • 2 reasons why some are unsuccessful
    The manifesto pledges promise are unpopular and The leader performs badly at a leader’s debate.
