  They see the family as the basis of society. They see the best family as the nuclear family. They criticise single parents because they believe children need a male and female role model for effective socialisation. They believe that single parent families cost too much in welfare benefit
• Welfare dependency

  the state in which a person or household is reliant on government welfare benefits for their income for a prolonged period of time
• Nanny State

  Nanny state is a term used that conveys a view that a government or its policies are overprotective or interfering within the family.

  The term "nanny state" protects its citizens too much and makes them rely on the state too much.
• Family Diversity

  The New Right see the increase in family diversity•as a threat to social stability.
• Reasons for the decline in the nuclear family


  •Over generous welfare benefits which allow fathers to opt out of their responsibilities for providing for their children.

  Changing divorce law have made family breakdown easier. The influence of feminism which has devalued marriage, domesticity and childrearing (women focusing on careers instead/as well).

  Sexual permissiveness (tolerance of sex outside marriage). Secularisation (decline in the importance of religion).
