RP- Effects of different antibiotics on bacterial growth

  • Sample Method:
    1.Inoculate a Petri dish with a culture of bacteria
    2.Soak small discs of filter paper in different antibiotics
    3.Using forceps place the antibiotic discs on the surface of the agar
    4.Incubate the sealed dish upside down at 25 degrees Celsius for several days
  • Variables:
    Independent: Type of antibiotic
    Dependent: Area around each disc which is clear of bacteria
    Control: Concentration of antibiotic used, length of time discs are soaked
  • Considerations, Mistakes and Errors:
    Can vary the concentration of antibiotic in order to find the best to use
