Transmission of disease

• direct transmission - droplet infection, sexual intercourse, touching an infected organism

  e.g. HIV and athletes foot
• indirect transmission - air, water, food or a vector

  e.g. potato/ tomato blight and malaria
• a vector is an organism that spreads disease by carrying pathogens from one host to another
