What is an alloy?
A mixture of a metal with other elements
Give 3 reasons why alloys might be more useful than a pure metal
They are harder, they can be made to have higher tensile strength, they can be made corrosion proof
How are alloys made?
Metals are heated and mixed with other elements
explain why alloys are harder than metals?
Alloys contain elements with different sizes of atoms. This distorts the layers of atoms in the structure. The distorted layers do not slide easily over each other.

iron and carbon

copper and zinc
Name the elements found within bronze?
Copper and tin
How do the properties of low carbon steel differ from high carbon steel?
High carbon steel is harder and less malleable than low carbon steel
