• acid + metal carbonate = salt + water + carbon dioxide
• the salt produced depends on acid and metal ion in oxide or hydroxide for example sulfuric acid + potassium hydroxide=potassium sulfate + water
• sulfuric acid + calcium carbonate = calcium sulfate + water + carbon dioxide
