Rivers

Cards (5)

  • 4 types of erosion
    • Hydraulic action: The force of the water breaking the river bed down
    • Abrasion: rocks hit against the river bed braking down the river- sandpaper effect
    • Attrition: the rocks hit against each other breaking down
    • solution: the rocks dissolved by the acidic water
  • 4 types of transportation
    • Traction: Sediment is too large to be carried and so is rolled along the river bed
    • saltation: sediment is still large and so it is carried over short hops before being re-deposited
    • suspension: sediment is carried by the water
    • solution: sediment is fully dissolved by the water and carried
  • All sediment is deposited, depending on its size depends on how far the river can carry it
  • All water that reached the river arrives through the water cycle and its drainage basin
  • Drainage basin: where water that falls in an area flows into the river
