  • Battle of Little Big Horn Story
    (1) Many things led to this but mainly an expedition into the Black Hills led by General Custer. He claimed there was gold and his men and others set up mining camps in the Black Hills which violated 1868 Fort Laramie treaty. U.S army offered to buy Black Hills for $6 million
    (2) Sioux refused to go on reservation so U.S sent three pronged attack on the 3,000 NA of varying tribes. Custer attacked early and split his 750 men into three groups, of which two retreated.
    (3) Custer and all his men were killed due to his arrogance
  • Consequences of Battle of Little Big Horn
    (1) 1876 ‘Sell or Starve’ Indians Appropriations Act, which meant that if NA’s didn’t sell the Black Hills then they would not receive food or benefits from the government. Eventually the U.S government seized the Black Hills under the 1877 agreement.
    (2) Native Americans were forced onto the Great Sioux reservation ——> ended their nomadic lifestyle and increased government control over them, in 1881.
