respiration and metabolism

• respiration is the process of transferring energy from glucose to the cell's molecules
• organisms use energy from respiration is to build complex molecules from simple ones e.g proteins from amino acids
• in animals energy is used to allow muscles to contract
• metabolism is all the chemical reaction in an organism
• chemical reactions are controlled by enzymes and many are linked together to perform larger reactions
• in some metabolism reactions, large molecules are made from smaller ones e.g glucose joins together to form starch, glycogen and cellulose
• in other reactions , larger molecules are broken down into small ones such as glucose is broken down in respiration and transfers energy to power all reactions to make molecules
