• What are the pros and cons of electron microscopes?

  Pros:

  • produces 3D images (SEM)
  • higher resolution than light microscopes
  • higher magnification than light

  Cons:

  • specimen has to be dead
  • specimen has to be in a vacuum
  • requires complex staining process
  • specimen has to be very thin
