Geothermal Energy
The
heat
from the Earth’s
interior
Therme
Heat
Geo
Earth
Geothermal Heat Pump
•Provide
heat
for buildings
•Use
heat
coming from close to the
Earth's surface
Geothermal Power Plant
•Generate
steam
to make electricity
•Use
heat
from deep inside the Earth
Process of
Geothermal-Heat-Pump
Ground
source heat pump uses fluid to absorb heat from the ground
Using
electricity, the pump compresses the fluid and releases it at a higher temperature
Heat
is sent to radiators or under floor heating. The remainder is stored in a tank.
Stored
hot water can be used for showers, baths and taps
Geothermal Power Plant
Wells
are drilled deep into the earth to pump
steam
or
hot water
to the surface.
When the water reaches the surface, the drop in pressure causes the water to turn into
steam.
The steam spins a
turbine
, which is connected to a
generator
that produces
electricity.
Cooling
tower cools the stearn which it
condenses
back to water.
The cooled water is
pumped
back into the earth to begin the process again.
Pros
of Geothermal energy
•Environment friendly •Renewable and sustainable •Creates more jobs •Cheaper
Cons
of Geothermal energy
•Restricted location
•Could trigger
earthquakes
