Improving Lumbar Spine Mobility

  • Lumbar Flexion:
    • single or double knee to chests in supine
    • childs pose - also beneficial for pts with anterior pelvic tilt as theyll have tight hip flexors
    • cat/cow - on all fours, flex spine as much as possible
  • Lumbar Extension:
    • mini cobra to full cobra (prone lying whilst extending trunk)
    • can progress based on SIN factors
    • or if pts are high SIN for flexion you can put them in this position to stretch the flexors
  • Lumbar rotation:
    • crook lying knee rocks
    • seated rotation (sit on edge of plinth, twist spine with stable pelvis)
    • open book
  • Side flexion:
    • standing side flexion
