    • GILBERT BAKER PRIDE FLAG
      • The flag that started it all
      • Created by Gilbert Baker (1977), an artist, activist, and openly gay military veteran
      • Harvey Milk, a historic LGBTQ+ figure, tasked Baker to create a flag for the queer community
      • Inspired by the song, "Over the Rainbow" in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz
      1. COLOR PRIDE FLAG
      • Hot pink was dropped because the fabric is hard to find
      • The demand for the flag began to rise after the assassination of gay San Francisco City Supervisor Harvey Milk on November 27, 1978
      • The flag was once again modified to even out the number of colors, turquoise was later dropped
    • TRANSGENDER FLAG
      • Created in 1999 by Monica Helms, a transgender woman
      • Light pink, light blue = colors associated with little girls and boys
      • White = intersex, transitioning people, or those who don't feel identified with any gender
    • PROGRESS PRIDE FLAG
      • Designed by Daniel Quasar
      • Redesigned to place a greater emphasis on "inclusion and progression"
      • Colors included = transgender, gender nonconforming, undefined
      • Has stripes to represent the experiences of people of color too
      • Has stripes to also represent those living with HIV/AIDS, people who have passed because of this and the overall stigma regarding the disease
      • Revised in 2021 by Valentino Vecchietti to include intersex colors
    • NONBINARY FLAG
      • Created by Kye Rowan in 2014
      • Represents people whose gender identity do not fit within the male-female binary system
      • Yellow = people who identify outside the cisgender binary system
      • White = multi-gendered people
      • Lavender = people who identify as a blending of male and female genders
      • Black = agender, no gender
      • Some nonbinary persons use gender-neutral pronouns
    • INTERSEX FLAG
      • Created by Morgan Carpenter in 2013
      • Carpenter chose yellow and purple because neither is associated with the social constructs of the gender binary
      • Perfect and unbroken circle = wholeness of the intersex people
      • Intersex people are perfect just the way they are or choose to be
    • ASEXUAL FLAG
      • Created by the Asexual Visibility and Education in 2010
      • Asexuality = lack of sexual attraction to others, low interest in sexual activity, can also be an umbrella term
      • Black = asexuality
      • Gray = demisexuality
      • White = allies of the community
      • Purple = community of asexual folks
    • BISEXUAL FLAG
      • Created by Michael Page in 1998
      • The blending of pink and blue to create purple, like how bisexual people can blend in both straight and gay community
      • Pink = attraction to the same gender
      • Blue = attraction to the opposite gender
      • Purple = attraction to two or more genders
    • PANSEXUAL FLAG
      • Created by Tumblr user Jasper V in 2010
      • Pansexuality = those who are attracted to people without thinking about gender
      • Pink = attraction to women
      • Blue = attraction to men
      • Yellow = attraction to people who don't identify with binary genders
      • Often considered more inclusive than bisexuality
    • LESBIAN FLAG
      • Created by Natalie McCray in 2010
      • The old lesbian flag featured different shades of pink, sometimes with a kiss mark to represent lipstick lesbians
      • However, some lesbians opposed this flag because of the exclusion of butch lesbians
      • Darkest orange = gender nonconformity, middle orange = independence, lightest orange = community, white = unique relationships to womanhood, lightest pink = serenity and peace, middle pink = love and sex, darkest pink = femininity
    • ABROSEXUAL FLAG
      • Created by Mod Chad and has been existing since 2015
      • Abrosexuality = sexuality is changing or fluid
      • The timing of fluctuations is different for every person, may be erratic or regular
    • GAY MEN'S PRIDE FLAG
      • Features shades of green, blue, and purple
      • The old gay men's pride flag only consisted of blue shades and were later perceived to be stereotypical of the gender binary
      • Updated flag meant to be more inclusive of all gay men, including but not limited to transgender, intersex, and gnc
    • GENDER QUEER PRIDE FLAG
      • Created by genderqueer writer and advocate Marilyn Roxie in 2011
      • Lavender = gender queer identities and adrogyny
      • White = gender neutral and agender
      • Chartreuse green = identities that aren't in the gender binary system or the third gender
      • Genderqueer = umbrella term that refers to any identity that aren't cisgender
    • STRAIGHT ALLY FLAG

      • Uses the black and white colors of the heterosexual flag with a rainbow "A" on it to indicate support for the LGBTQ community
      • Originated in the late 2000s although the exact origin is unknown
