  • Groups Areas Act, 1950: 3.5 million people had to leave their homes in Urban areas e.g. Sophiatown, in Johannesburg and District Six, in Cape Town where 60,000 coloureds were removed.
  • Bantu Authorities Act, 1951: reserves covered 13% of South Africa for 70% of the population
  • The Bantu Education Act, 1953: average education spending for whites was about 8 times what it was for blacks
  • Pass system: 385,000 people arrested for not having passes in 1962 alone.
  • Influx control Policy: Failure as black employment in Urban areas increased during the 1950's, went from 2.3 million to 3.4 million.
