Agape -
Agape
is
not the kind of
love
that
involves
friendship
or
physical
attention
It
means putting the
welfare
and
interests
of
others
before
your
own
Jesus
showed
agape
to
others
by
dying
on
the
cross
to
save humanity
Jesus
gave
his
disciples
a
new commandment
about
love
at
the
Last Supper
before
he
died.
This
shows
love
is
central
to
all
Christian action
and
behaviour
Good Samaritan - Example of Agape
Showing
love
to
your
neighbour
is
second
most important
commandment
Jesus
explained who our neighbour is in the
Parable
of
the
Good Samaritan
The
Samaritan
helped
a
jew
who
had
been
beaten
up
and
left
for
dead.
He
took
him
to
an
inn
and
paid
for
his
care
Jews
and
Samaritans
were
enemies
so
Jesus
teaches
love
must
be
shown
to
anyone
in
need
Golden Rule -
The Golden Rule is
'Treat others as you want to be treated'
It
is a summary of Jesus' teaching on love
We
are to think of others when we act and to treat people with the care and respect we would like from them
