    He studied York and wrote ‘Poverty: A study in town life’ as well as creating the poverty line

    He believed that people weren’t working hard enough and that poverty was caused by people gambling and drinking

    The Welfare State. It gave pensions and benefits to the poor and old

    He proposed his idea of the 5 giants which cause poverty as well as the NHS

    He used plastic surgery in WW2. He used penicillin to prevent infection when treating pilots in plastic surgery

    Rationing meant people had to eat less food so they were encouraged to grow more fruit and vegetables

    Harken cut into beating heaths with his hands and removed bullets as well as bits of sharpnel

    After the knowledge of blood groups They stored blood for transfusions. This blood was kept fresh and useable for longer

    He published paper about penicillin in 1928
    He invented the term antibiotic
    Without Fleming, penicillin would never have been developed

    During 1940-1944, they went through the whole process of experimenting and producing penicillin. They persuaded the US government to fun penicillin production
  • Advantages of penicillin?
    It saved many lives during and after world war 2, causing it more attention and other illnesses now had an antibiotic

    They stored the blood and used a solution to stop it contacting with air
  • Why was plastic surgery important?
    Some soldiers’ skin was burnt off or they suffered a disease which damaged their skin

    Transplanting skin from one part of the body to another
