  • Wan-sen-yan et al examined internet addiction
-892 students in China. Stress was measured using self-report event checklist and found severely addicted PP scored more highly on the life changes measures than non-addictive PP.
-Demographic variables like gender, age and education were accounted for which suggests a relationship between stress and addiction.
  • Issue with establishing cause and effect
-high stress levels may indeed be linked to becoming addicted but culd also be a by product of being an addict. Addictions cause greater levels of stress as the negative effects of addictions cause stress. e.g. gamblers may be stressed they don't have enough money to gamble so borrow money and lose it and therefore can't pay it back.
