  • Peers
    -a lot of addicts report that it was the influence of peers which led them to try drugs or consume alcohol.
  • SLT - influence through two process model
    -observing models we identify with receive positive reinforcement from can result in us imitating addictive behaviours.
    -We also may be vicariously reinforced through observing the rewards received by others.
  • Social influence - normative social influence
    -suggests that we conform to be 'liked' by social groups.
    -We therefore may try addictive substances to avoid social rejection from our peers.
