  Tried and failed to occupy Virginia as a colony (Roanoke) which he though had materials like oil etc. He came back with good like tobacco and potatoes
• What did Drake do?

  He stole £400,000 from Spain while circumnavigating the globe. He gave half to Elizabeth. He became rich and famous. Would always steal from Spain
• Consequences?

  Made Philip of Spain angry as Elizabeth didn’t stop the robbing

  Contributed greatly to the Spanish Armada

  It did however made England quite rich

  England wanted new markets and routes to reduce reliance on Europe
